The unexamined life

A little while ago the esteemable J. Edward Keyes wrote a guardedly positive review of a Taylor Hicks show. There were then hundreds of comments ripping him apart for the mortal sin of... I'm not quite sure, actually. Not being enthusiastic enough? Whitney Pastorek over at PopWatch has written an excellent commentary on the whole mess that asks some pretty fucking crucial questions, and she's got links to the original article and more. Essential reading if you're at all interested in any form of cultural criticism (and if you're not, why aren't you?).
