Let it fall

I've got a brief piece on Radiohead's great "How I Made My Millions" in the penultimate installment of Memories Can't Wait. This one is about, naturally, sadness.

That's beautiful. I especially like the quote at the end about doing something with sadness...

My favorite sad song is "the Humming Song" by Gorki's Zygotic Mynci"..."This is the humming song, sing it when you're on your own..."

I was listening to it a lot during one of those rough marital patches, probably wouldn't sound so desolate now.

That's not the first time I've used that quote, because I like it that much. Might be my favourite thing written on sad songs (and a nice riposte to the Nick Hornby-style "oh woe is me, sad songs make me a bad person" thing).

I love love love "The Humming Song," kind of wish I'd thought to use that one maybe; "Some people, they leave home every day" is one of the saddest lines I know. I like Gorky's, but I only own How I Long to Feel That Summer in My Heart and The Blue Trees EP (because I love "Face Like Summer" that much).

But I don't know, I used to listen to "The Humming Song" during the late nights of my first few undergrad years... I think it can still sound pretty desolate under most circumstances.

And thanks! Normally I ramble on for longer, but this time something concise seemed appropriate.
